Description
Grease: The Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture was a huge success as a Broadway musical prior to hitting the big screen in 1978. The soundtrack rivaled its film counterpart as a pop culture perennial, and it’s not hard to see why — its good-natured pastiche of doo wop and early rock & roll is infectious and charming, due in no small part to John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John‘s charismatic, engaging performances. They sing the majority of the originals — “Summer Nights,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “You’re the One That I Want,” “Sandy,” “Greased Lightnin'” — which were the reason why the film and soundtrack became blockbusters.
Besides performers John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the album also featured songs by rock and roll revival group Sha Na Na as well as the hit song “Grease“, a tune written by Barry Gibb (of the Bee Gees) and sung by Frankie Valli (of The Four Seasons).
The 25th anniversary 2 CD Deluxe Edition is packag ed as a Deluxe Edition double digipak housed in a plastic slipcase, and comes with a deluxe booklet featuring song lyrics for all songs on Disc One, photos, and detailed credits. And, of course, the album was digitally remastered from the original m aster tapes for superior sound.
