The Instrumental Favorites series was in some ways the logical descendant of the Great Instrumentals series that Time-Life offered in the 1970s. There were twenty-one volumes offered in the original 1994-1996 series, plus two Christmas CDs. Some of the volumes featured a single artist and others were compilations of various artists. In 2002, an additional volume was added which was more or less a compilation of many of the songs on the previous volumes.
